Collection: Engine: Lithtech

LithTech is a proprietary 3D game engine developed by Monolith Productions in the late 1990s, best known for powering fast, atmospheric PC shooters and immersive action games. It evolved through many versions (LithTech 1.0 → Jupiter EX), each tailored to specific titles rather than broad licensing.

  • 🩸 Blood II: The Chosen – early LithTech with fast-paced FPS action and gothic style

  • 🕵️ No One Lives Forever – stylish spy FPS blending humor, stealth, and smart AI

  • 👮 F.E.A.R. – groundbreaking enemy AI, dynamic combat, and horror atmosphere

  • ⚔️ Shogo: Mobile Armor Division – FPS/mech hybrid with anime-inspired flair

LithTech stood out for its tight gunplay, advanced AI scripting, and strong single-player focus. Monolith used the engine as an internal toolset, optimizing it heavily for each game rather than chasing engine-agnostic flexibility. This approach allowed features like squad-based enemy behavior, contextual reactions, and cinematic scripting long before they were industry standard.

By the time of F.E.A.R., LithTech (Jupiter EX) had become famous for its AI Director–style encounters, volumetric lighting, and physics-driven combat that made every firefight feel dynamic and unscripted 😱. While LithTech was eventually retired in favor of newer technology, its legacy lives on as one of the most influential PC shooter engines of its era—especially beloved by fans of intelligent enemies and atmospheric storytelling.
